Laila Abdullah’s Heartbreaking Revelations: Harassment, Family Struggles, and Overcoming Criticism

Lebanese actress Laila Abdullah, based in Kuwait, has garnered widespread sympathy after revealing several deeply personal aspects of her life, notably the fact that both her parents are deaf and mute. Laila disclosed that she faced harassment at the age of six by three different individuals. These individuals, close to the family, took advantage of her parents’ inability to hear or comprehend her distress.

In an interview with Emirati journalist Anas Boukhash, Laila said, “Three close family acquaintances harassed me, exploiting the fact that my parents couldn’t hear me or understand what I was going through.” She continued, expressing her anguish, “I felt disgusted and pained by these experiences and told no one, not even my family. I knew they would be deeply saddened and feel helpless. They are the kindest souls, peace-loving, and avoid conflicts.”

Laila couldn’t hold back her tears when discussing a poignant moment with her mother, who asked her to describe the sound of each family member’s voice. Recalling the incident, Laila said, “When my sister was born, my mother asked me a question that shattered me. She asked me to describe the sound of everyone in our family. I told her my voice was a bit sharp, while my sister’s had a huskiness to it.”

Laila also touched upon her childhood struggles, growing up in a financially constrained household with parents who were both deaf and mute. Addressing the criticism and mockery she faced regarding her appearance, she said, “I was ridiculed for my looks, even being told that my face resembled that of a horse or a dog. Some even said I looked more like a man.” Despite the hurtful comments, Laila remains confident in her beauty and urges critics to reflect on their own behavior and character before judging others.
