Watan- Egyptian director Khaled Youssef has stirred controversy with his views on homosexuality, particularly accusing Netflix of promoting it. During his appearance on the “Makal Naqash” show aired on the “Al Arabiya” channel, Youssef defended personal freedoms but emphasized that they shouldn’t contradict Arab traditions.
Differing Opinions
He elaborated, “The value system that Netflix promotes is certainly not in line with my Arab identity and values. However, they have the right to present their values as they see fit.” Youssef, known for his intimate scandals with women, added, “No one can prevent it. They have the right to promote a certain culture, just as I have the right to promote mine. They might label me as regressive, and I might see them as decadent. These are opinions.”
Netflix and the Promotion of Homosexuality
Addressing Netflix’s portrayal of homosexuality, Youssef stated, “People are upset that Netflix is promoting homosexuality. There’s a difference between a Western society trying to accept diversity, which I fully support, and creating and promoting a culture of deviance, which I oppose.”
Past Scandals Resurface
It’s worth noting that Khaled Youssef was outside Egypt when explicit clips of him with several women, notably Mona Farouk and Shaima El-Hajj, were leaked. These clips led to the imprisonment of Mona and Shaima for a period before their release in 2019.
