Biden’s Awkward Handshake: A Glimpse into U.S.-Saudi Relations at the G20 Summit

A series of unexpected moments between President Biden and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the G20 Summit sparks online debate.

Watan- During the G20 Summit held in India, a video clip showcasing a somewhat uncomfortable handshake between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and U.S. President Joe Biden has been widely circulated. In the footage, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen introducing the Saudi Crown Prince to Biden. As Mohammed bin Salman extends his hand for a handshake, there’s a brief pause as Biden first greets Modi before turning to the Crown Prince.

This brief interaction was interpreted by some online commentators as a potentially embarrassing moment for the Saudi Crown Prince. However, others viewed it as a standard diplomatic exchange, criticizing those who saw it as awkward.

Adding to the online chatter was another video clip where President Biden appeared to struggle with pronouncing the Saudi Crown Prince’s name correctly during the summit. Biden initially referred to him as “Prince Mohammed bin Salam.” Attempting to correct himself, Biden then said, “I’m sorry, Mohammed Salam.” This moment seemed to cause some discomfort for the Crown Prince, who was seen taking a sip of water shortly after.

This incident has reignited debates about President Biden’s health, with some speculating about potential cognitive issues. The White House has consistently denied such claims.
