Eskilstuna’s Revered Mosque Decimated by Suspected Arson: Swedish Authorities Launch Probe

Watan – The esteemed Eskilstuna Grand Mosque in southeastern Sweden has been grievously affected by a deliberate blaze. Visual documentation of the incident’s aftermath, available on various digital platforms, depicts the mosque being wholly engulfed, accompanied by plumes of thick smoke ascending.

In an interview with the state-operated SR radio, Anas Dinesh, the mosque’s Communications Director, articulated his conviction that the fire was not a mere mishap but a calculated act of arson. He referenced historical instances of threats and attacks on the mosque, underscoring the deliberate nature of this calamity.

In an official communique, local law enforcement agencies have deemed the mosque as non-operational owing to the extensive damage incurred. Probes for this distressing event are in progress. Anders Sessler, a representative from the emergency response team, highlighted that the mosque’s core infrastructure was irretrievably damaged, with particular emphasis on the total loss of the roof. It is noteworthy that the premises were vacant during the incident, ensuring no casualties.

Police statement about the assault

Sweden, a nation hosting a Muslim populace exceeding 600,000, has been observing a disconcerting surge in incidents maligning the Quran. Such episodes, predominantly near mosques and embassies of Islamic countries, have evoked vehement responses from the international Muslim diaspora, culminating in official objections by multiple nations.
Pertinently, the United Nations unanimously endorsed a resolution on July 25th, initiated by Morocco, denouncing any form of aggression against sacred texts.
