Watan – Known for its iconic skyline and deep history, Istanbul faced a surprise: heavy rains and flood. Media showed the city’s streets turning into rivers.
The rain flooded Istanbul’s roads, making them look like large ponds. Officials quickly called for evacuations in flood-prone areas.
Many streets were blocked, forcing people to abandon their cars. Some even pushed their vehicles to escape the rising water.
Istanbul wasn’t alone. Reports highlighted Kuşadası in Aydın, where a short, heavy rain turned roads into lakes, troubling drivers.
City crews worked hard to clear the flooded streets and help people.
Nearby Lapseki in Çanakkale also saw flooding. The Kojabaş River rose quickly, turning roads into streams and disrupting traffic.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) proactively reached out to citizens. Through text messages, they disseminated warnings about the potential risks associated with the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Istanbul’s Governor, Davut Gül, in a display of proactive governance, advocated for the evacuation of specific locales in anticipation of further water level surges, especially after several city districts found themselves submerged.
