Watan – In a brazen daylight heist in Istanbul’s Başakşehir district, three individuals masqueraded as police officers, orchestrating a robbery at a Syrian Resident’s Home that has left the city on edge.

According to local sources, the trio, disguised as police officers, targeted the residence of a Syrian national. They stole jewelry amounting to 50,000 liras, cash totaling 35,000 liras, and three mobile phones. However, the crime escalated to violence when, in a bid to escape, one of the impostors shot the homeowner.

The victim recounts, “The individuals who approached my residence posed as police officers. Not only did they deceive, but they also attacked me, making away with precious gold jewelry and mobile phones.”

Elaborating further, he said, “At the break of dawn, there was a distinct knock. Their authoritative response gave the illusion of police presence. However, the situation took a dark turn when they revealed a firearm, demanding, ‘Where’s the gold? The money?’ In their haste, they seized five bracelets valued at 50,000, an additional 35,000 liras, and three mobile phones.”

Building on the harrowing tale, he expressed, “In a moment of defiance, I confronted them during their exit. Their chilling reply was a gunshot, the bullet lodging in my chest, leaving my family paralyzed with fear.”

The police are investigating the incident
Istanbul’s police department, acting on leads and evidence, managed to apprehend the suspects in record time. A search of their premises revealed a stash of counterfeit police gear, including vests, caps, and handcuffs, further solidifying their impersonation ruse.
