Watan – In an unsettling turn of events, the Military College in Homs became the epicenter of a devastating drone attack. As the institution’s corridors echoed with the triumphant sounds of graduation, they were swiftly replaced by the cacophony of chaos and despair.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense, in its official communique, decried the assault, attributing it to “terrorist factions with international affiliations.” The gravity of the incident, as highlighted in their statement, underscores the evolving challenges Syria faces in its quest for stability.

Emergency teams arrived at the scene within a short notice, clearing debris and aiding the injured before transporting them to a nearby military hospital. The situation remains tense, with no extremist group yet claiming responsibility.

Early reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reveal a bleak scenario: over 60 people lost their lives, including civilians. Notably, a woman and a child, relatives of the officers, were among the victims.

The Military College in Homs’ Al-Waer district had managed to steer clear of direct conflict since the upheavals in 2011. Yet, its role as a launching pad for artillery strikes on Homs’ civilian areas during the early stages of the conflict underscores its strategic importance.

Several key military facilities, affiliated with the Syrian regime, stand close to the college, further highlighting the area’s strategic significance.
