The Devastating Human and Economic Costs of the Israeli Occupation’s 35-Day War on Gaza

Watan-The language of numbers has documented the tragic and horrifying cost of the war waged by the Israeli occupation forces on the Gaza Strip, now in its 35th consecutive day.

In addition to the loss of over 11,000 Palestinians due to the massacres committed by the occupying forces, the Government Media Office in Gaza, as articulated by its head Salama Ma’roof, emphasizes the painful toll of the Israeli war.

The destruction of schools, hospitals, and churches:

In the context of the war, the occupation’s aircraft destroyed more than 88 government facilities, 238 schools (60 of which are completely out of service), as well as the complete destruction of 67 mosques, partial damage to 145 mosques, and 3 churches.

The direct losses in the agricultural sector resulting from the war on Gaza amounted to 170 million dollars, leading to the destruction and uprooting of 25% of agricultural areas, totaling 45,000 dunams.

Additionally, there was destruction of poultry and fish farms, olive trees, impact on the olive oil season, damage to olive oil presses, disruption of export activities, and other indirect losses, the details of which are being assessed for later disclosure, as announced by the Government Media Office.

Massacres against hospitals

He indicated that the crimes and massacres committed by the occupying forces continue with the targeting of hospitals. Many hospitals are now out of service, while psychiatric hospitals, Al-Nasr Children’s Hospital, and Al-Rantisi Specialized Children’s Hospital are at risk of being rendered non-operational. This has resulted in severe damage affecting hundreds of thousands of citizens, including tens of thousands of children.

As part of the occupation’s targeting of hospitals in the Gaza Strip, 18 hospitals and 46 health centers have been taken out of service. More than 3,000 children have been deprived of essential medical services for cancer treatment and kidney dialysis alone.

Pregnant women adversely affected by the war

The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has resulted in the detriment of 50,000 pregnant women who have been deprived of care, guidance, and monitoring for over a month. Additionally, 100,000 citizens have been cut off from the necessary follow-up, guidance, and prescribed medications for their chronic illnesses.

This deprivation includes addressing the elevated rates of malnutrition caused by the siege warfare imposed by the occupation against our Palestinian people, along with the prevention of aid entry and the complete closure of the blockade.

Israeli war crimes

It is noted that the Israeli war on Gaza was marked by the commission of numerous war crimes and massacres documented by various regional and international human rights organizations.

One recent initiative in this regard involved a French lawyer sending a letter on behalf of three Palestinian non-governmental organizations to the International Criminal Court, condemning war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the occupying forces in Gaza.

The letter, addressed to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, stated that the facts presented by the Al-Haq Foundation, Al Mezan Center, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights constitute intent for genocide, incitement to genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

The organizations also urged the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against the key figures responsible for these crimes, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.
