Palestinian Journalists Cross Borders Amidst the Al-Aqsa Uprising

Hebrew Media Launches Intensive Campaign Against Palestinian Journalists Covering the Al-Aqsa Uprising in Gaza Enclave”

Hebrew media recently initiated a concentrated campaign against Palestinian journalists who provided on-the-ground coverage of the Al-Aqsa Uprising in the settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip on October 7th of the past year.

During the operation, several Palestinian journalists managed to cross the border separating the occupied Palestinian territories from 1948 and the Gaza Strip. They captured photos and videos documenting the events.

Social media platforms buzzed with video clips and photographic images captured by Palestinians and from within the occupied territory, shedding light on the aftermath of Palestinian resistance operations.

These clips and images portrayed the initial moments of shock caused by unexpected Palestinian rockets, coinciding with ground movements. They also documented Israeli casualties, mass escapes, as well as the burning and destruction of military vehicles.

One of these journalists, Muthanna Al-Najjar, successfully crossed the dividing strip from the very beginning and recounted entering the occupied territories moments after creating an opening in the metal fence. He traversed the sandy distance between the first and second fences, covering a distance of six kilometers and witnessing a burning tank.

Similarly, photojournalist Hassan Asleh was among the first to cross the border fence in the initial moments of the events. Reflecting on those moments, he stated, “For the first time in my life, I managed to reach and photograph in the occupied areas within the Gaza Strip enclave.”

The documentation efforts by Palestinian journalists in the settlements made them the target of incitement by several extremist officials and politicians who called for their killing.
