Political and military disagreements plague Netanyahu’s leadership in the aftermath of Gaza conflict

Watan-Media reports in Hebrew have affirmed that the “deep pit into which the Israeli occupation entered” – referring to the October 7 attack by the resistance and the subsequent war on Gaza, along with the ongoing losses of the occupation – is increasingly challenging to escape due to political and military disagreements among government officials.

In this context, the Hebrew newspaper “Maariv” mentioned that after the panic and shock that gripped Israelis following the “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” groups within Netanyahu’s government were observed in internal conflicts despite the catastrophe Israel is facing.

The report clarified that the War Council can be divided into two main groups: the “Generals’ Group” and the “Americans’ Group.

Disputes among prominent Israeli groups

The first group consisting of the government’s war member and former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff, and Yoav Galant, the Minister of Defense.

As for the “Americans” group, it includes the Prime Minister of the occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Ron Dermer, the Minister of Strategic Affairs in the current government, both born in the United States and holding its citizenship as well.

Between these two groups is the leader of the “Shas Party,” Aryeh Deri, who is considered one of Netanyahu’s key allies in the ruling coalition and plays the role of a mediator.

The source pointed out that the conflict within Benjamin Netanyahu’s camp or the War Council led by him has come to the forefront more clearly this week.

Open confrontation among all parties

the disagreements resembling an open face-off between the factions, primarily due to the proposed prisoner exchange deal with the Hamas movement. A decisive decision had to be made.

Galant stands against Eisenkot, while Gantz appears to be in a middle ground between them. Netanyahu is described as hesitant and remorseful, shouting at everyone and then attempting to contain them, according to Maariv newspaper and Walla Hebrew website.

As for Dermer, he is not seen as an influential factor and has not been so from the beginning when he was selected in the government coalition to mediate with the Democratic Party in the United States, President Biden’s party. However, both he and his role have been forgotten for a long time.

According to Maariv and Walla sources, Netanyahu’s office feels that the end is near, implying that hopes of staying in power have faded amidst discussions about all current military leaders in Israel being prepared to resign once the war on Gaza concludes.

Everyone, according to the sources, feels a sense of dismal failure that led to the catastrophic defeat on October 7th. Still, no one knows the timeline or the manner in which the war might conclude.

Israeli Failure and Confusion in Gaza

Tensions have escalated to what can be described as an open confrontation among all parties, primarily driven by the proposed prisoner exchange deal with the Hamas movement. A decisive decision had become inevitable.

Galant is positioned against Eisenkot, while Gantz appears to be mediating between the two. Netanyahu is characterized as indecisive and remorseful, alternating between shouting at everyone and attempting to contain the situation, as reported by Maariv newspaper and Walla Hebrew website.

Dermer, on the other hand, is not seen as an influential figure, a perception that has persisted since the beginning when he was selected in the government coalition to mediate with the Democratic Party in the United States, President Biden’s party. However, both Dermer and his role have been overshadowed for a considerable period.

Sources from Maariv and Walla indicate that Netanyahu’s office senses that the end is near, suggesting that hopes of maintaining power are diminishing. There are discussions about all current military leaders in Israel being prepared to resign once the war on Gaza concludes.

According to these sources, there is a pervasive feeling of dismal failure that resulted in the catastrophic defeat on October 7th. However, the timeline and the manner in which the war might conclude remain uncertain.
