Challenging Night at Indonesian Hospital: Al Jazeera’s Renowned Doctor Injured in the Line of Duty

Watan-A video has surfaced documenting the moment of Dr. Adnan Al-Barsh’s injury, a specialist in orthopedic surgery and the head of the orthopedics department, during a surgical procedure at an Indonesian hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.

Al-Barsh was seen soaked in blood after being injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the hospital. The treatment procedure took place in darkness due to a power outage in the hospital.

Al-Barsh appeared in a state of extreme fatigue, experiencing pain from his injuries sustained in the Israeli bombardment.

Al-Barsh was a regular presence on Al Jazeera, serving as one of the active voices documenting the conditions in the northern Gaza Strip, particularly amid the isolation of these areas from the rest of the world.

Injuries Among Displaced Persons and the Wounded

Additionally, footage has emerged showing injuries among displaced individuals and patients inside the Indonesian hospital after Israeli occupation tanks opened fire and launched shells towards it.

A message that could be the last from the hospital

Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif sent a recorded message from amidst the gunfire as the hospital came under attack and heavy fire. He expressed that this appearance might be his last amid the direct targeting by the occupying forces.

Al-Sharif stated that the Israeli military intensified firing upon patients and the wounded inside the hospital, with artillery launching shells directly at the medical facility.

He added that the Israeli atrocities have created a state of terror among those present in the hospital, rendering them incapable of moving due to the continuous targeting of anyone attempting to leave.

Martyrs in the Targeting of the Indonesian Hospital

As the Israeli war on Gaza escalated, a number of Palestinians were martyred, and others sustained injuries during Israeli shelling of the Indonesian hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to medical sources, at least 12 martyrs and dozens of injuries occurred due to the direct targeting by the occupation artillery of the hospital and its surroundings with shells and missiles. Additionally, live ammunition was fired towards anyone moving outside the hospital’s entrance.

The sources added that the occupation artillery targeted the second floor of the hospital, resulting in significant destruction of the area. Two doctors were also injured during their work.

The sources noted that the number of martyrs is increasing, especially as electricity is cut off, making it difficult to perform surgical operations to save the lives of the wounded.

Thousands of displaced individuals are present in the hospital, along with around 150 wounded individuals, in addition to the medical teams and hospital staff numbering approximately 100.

Siege of the Indonesian Hospital

Occupation forces have surrounded the hospital using dozens of heavy military vehicles and artillery, within a perimeter of less than one kilometer.

Snipers are also positioned on the rooftops of buildings near the hospital, preventing ambulances from reaching the medical facility to transport the wounded. The hospital is the only one partially operational in the northern sector.
