Watan-The ‘Prisoners and Liberated Affairs Authority’ stated in a press release on Tuesday that the female prisoners in Damon prison are facing extremely difficult detention conditions under the sanctions imposed on them since October 7, 2023 (during the war on the Gaza Strip).
According to the statement released on the authority’s Facebook account and reported by (Watan), the Israeli prison administration has been implementing various punitive measures against Palestinian female prisoners, significantly tightening the pressure on them in all aspects.
The Prisoners and Liberated Affairs Authority revealed that the current number of female prisoners in Damon prison is 74, in addition to other female prisoners distributed across cells and various interrogation centers.
The occupation is conducting a fierce arrest campaign against Palestinian women in general, with a significant focus on the Blue Identity Campaign (inside the occupied territories), under the pretext of false excuses and justifications.
The female prisoners are cut off from the outside world
The conditions in the prison are harsh and degrading, with small rooms monitored by cameras at all times. Pillows and blankets are confiscated from 7 AM to 7 PM, despite the open windows throughout the day, despite the cold weather and rain.
As part of the abusive policies towards the female prisoners by the Zionist prison administration, the prison guards conduct daily humiliating strip searches in the morning and evening.
The female prisoners are completely isolated from the outside world; there are no visits or communications with family or lawyers, even though some detainees have court orders allowing them to communicate, which the administration refuses.
Additionally, the prisoners in Damon prison are prohibited from visiting the clinic and obtaining medication, despite some of them suffering from serious health conditions that require significant medical care.
The statement from the Prisoners and Liberated Affairs Authority explains that rooms and sections are raided unexpectedly multiple times, with guards assaulting prisoners without cause, using physical force, verbal abuse, and threats. Moreover, the canteen is closed, and the provided meals are of very poor quality.
Court proceedings are held via video conferencing (VC), an inconvenient procedure that lacks privacy for communication with lawyers, as guards remain present with the prisoners at all times.
Furthermore, all electrical appliances, personal belongings, and daily necessities have been confiscated from the rooms.
It is worth noting that Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have continued for 46 consecutive days, amid warnings of a recurrence of what happened at the Al-Shifa Medical Complex. The occupation forces have continued targeting hospitals in the northern part of the Strip, resulting in more casualties and injuries and rendering these hospitals completely out of service.
