Hope and Healing: Dr. Basam Abdullah Al-Zu’bi Extends Lifeline to Liberated Prisoner Israa Ja’abees
The Gaza ceasefire agreement

Watan-The Jordanian doctor, Dr. Basam Abdullah Al-Zu’bi, the medical director of Al-Hanan Hospital, announced his commitment to treat the liberated prisoner Israa Jaabees, who was released as part of the second batch of the prisoner exchange deal arising from the humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip.

Activist Haitham Azzam shared a message on his “X” platform account from Al-Zu’bi, in which he stated: “Regarding sister Israa and the necessary medical procedures, we, as Al-Hanan General Hospital located in Amman on Radio and Television Street, are fully prepared to treat her for the sake of Allah. We also provide her accommodation in my private residence, a separate apartment until she recovers. If she wishes to stay with us, she is a sister to us until the Day of Judgment.

The Jordanian doctor added in his message, “I would like to inform you that I have a list of doctors from all specialties ready to volunteer anywhere for the Gaza Strip.”

Release of the Prisoner Israa Jaabees

Israa Ja’abees was released late on Saturday night, among 39 Palestinian women and children prisoners, as part of the second batch of the prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas. This exchange is accompanied by a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip lasting for 4 days, extendable.

Israa is one of the oldest ten female prisoners in the occupation’s prisons, having served eight years of her 11-year sentence for attempting to kill an Israeli soldier.

On October 11, 2015, while returning from the city of Jericho to Jerusalem, Israa Jaabees’ car broke down near the Zaeem checkpoint. Israeli forces opened fire on the car, leading to the explosion of a gas cylinder inside and a subsequent large fire.

Severe Injuries Incurred by Israa Jaabees

As a result, Israa Jaabees suffered burns ranging from first to third degree, affecting 50% to 60% of her body. She lost all the fingers on both hands and experienced disfigurement of her face.

Despite her need for eight surgical procedures, the Israeli authorities deprived Ja’abees of the necessary medical treatment, intentionally neglecting her condition.
