Watan-The American newspaper Politico has revealed, citing high-level officials, the outlines of President Joe Biden’s post-war plan for the Gaza Strip.
According to the report, officials in the White House, the Department of State, and other agencies, led by the White House Coordinator for Middle East Affairs, spent weeks formulating this plan.
As per the information provided by the newspaper, the plan includes an increase in Washington’s security assistance to the Palestinian Authority and assigns a greater role to the American security coordinator in the region.
Renewed Palestinian Authority Governance
U.S. officials have stated that there is a need for international intervention to achieve stability immediately after the cessation of hostilities, with the long-term goal of a “renewed governance” by the Palestinian Authority.
According to a U.S. State Department official, the Palestinian Authority faces significant challenges in terms of “legitimacy and capabilities.”
Hamas’ Position Post-War
A high-ranking U.S. official indicated that the remaining uncertainty revolves around the extent to which the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) will persist in Gaza after the war.
The official noted that despite efforts, the U.S. administration has not been able to push Israeli leaders towards a meaningful discussion on the post-war shape of Gaza. He emphasized that there is no consideration for any talk of restricting U.S. military aid as a means of pressure on Israel.
Israeli-American Plans to End Hamas Control in Gaza: A Scenario Reminiscent of Yasser Arafat and a Role for the UAE and Saudi Arabia
While U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and others in the Biden administration have declared that the “deactivated” Palestinian Authority should manage the sector, they have not disclosed details on how to accomplish this. Additionally, Tel Aviv has expressed opposition and dismissed the idea, according to the newspaper.
A senior official in the Biden administration stated, “Ultimately, we want to have a Palestinian security structure in Gaza after the conflict.”
Hamas Affirms Absolute Rejection of Guardianship Over the Palestinian People
Hamas has repeatedly emphasized that no force on the ground can impose guardianship over the Palestinian people, in response to reports and plans discussing the future of the Gaza Strip after the Israeli war.
Osama Hamdan, a leader in the Hamas movement, previously stated, “For those who think that Hamas is leaving, Hamas will remain the conscience of our people and its aspirations. No force on the ground can seize or marginalize it.”
He added, “The plans of America and the occupation are dreams and part of a psychological war that we hope no one gets involved in.”
