Can the Israeli Occupation Army Successfully Drown Gaza Tunnels? Examining Challenges and Strategies

Watan-The military and strategic expert, General Fayez al-Duweiri, commented on the announcement by the Israeli occupation army about starting to drown tunnels in the Gaza Strip, according to an American newspaper.

Fayez al-Duweiri stated in remarks to Al Jazeera that the tunnel network in the Gaza Strip is built on engineering foundations and a complex design. He referred to previous statements by leaders of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) regarding the Gaza tunnels, stating that they exceed 500 kilometers. He affirmed that it is a spiderweb-like network, and those who designed it have maps that reveal its routes.

He added that those who oversaw the creation of the Gaza tunnel network took into account all considerations and precautions, including the possibility of the occupation drowning them with water.

Fayez al-Duweiri pointed out that the tunnels are not uniform, and the theory of permeable vessels does not apply to them. They are at different depths, and some of them consist of multiple levels.

The tunnels are not interconnected

And it is speculated that the connected portion of the tunnels near Rashid Street (the sea) has nearby endpoints. Additionally, the tunnel network is not entirely connected or open in all directions, and it is expected that the occupation army will succeed in drowning only a specific part.

An invasion plan for Gaza with American participation… Drowning the tunnels with nerve gas and assassinating thousands of resistance fighters.

Fayez al-Duweiri revealed that the occupation had established an engineering battalion to deal with tunnels in the Negev region and attempted to train to confront them using dogs, robots, drowning, and chemical factors such as toxic gases. However, he failed to neutralize their threat in the battles in the Gaza Strip.

An American newspaper reports the start of pumping water into the tunnels

The “Wall Street Journal” quoted informed American officials that the Israeli occupation army has begun pumping seawater into the tunnel complex belonging to the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Israeli Minister of Defense said that the tunnel operation is “classified” and cannot be commented on.

The American officials explained that pumping seawater into the tunnels in Gaza is part of efforts they claim are aimed at destroying the infrastructure of the Hamas movement. They indicated that flooding the movement’s tunnels could take weeks, and they are concerned that the use of seawater to drown the tunnels may endanger the freshwater supplies in Gaza.

On the other hand, a spokesperson for the Israeli Minister of Defense stated that the tunnel operation is classified and cannot be commented on.
