Palestinians use rainwater for washing clothes in Gaza

Watan-In a tragic and challenging scene, Palestinian activists share a video on social media platforms depicting Gaza families using rainwater to wash clothes amid severe water scarcity caused by the Israeli occupation’s cutting off the water supply since the beginning of its war on the Gaza Strip.

The circulated video shows a young Palestinian child washing one of his clothes with rainwater falling on the roof of his family’s home, portraying a difficult and heartbreaking scene.

The video also reveals numerous pieces of clothing scattered on the rooftop of the building, with laundry detergent laid out in preparation for washing them with rainwater during the current cold weather front affecting Palestine these days.

The use of rainwater extends beyond washing clothes; many families collect rainwater for drinking due to the scarcity and lack of water resulting from the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Water and Electricity Cut Off

Since its declaration of war on the Gaza Strip on October 7th of last year, the Israeli occupation has cut off water, electricity, telecommunications, and the internet in the region. This was done to conceal the scale of its heinous crimes against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, and to isolate the city, preventing communication with the outside world.

The Israeli occupation committed approximately 1700 massacres against civilians during its ongoing war on the Gaza Strip. This included the bombing of residential neighborhoods, buildings, mosques, schools, and hospitals without prior warning. The latest attack targeted the Shifa Medical Complex, which shelters displaced people, resulting in the deaths of dozens of martyrs.

According to the figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than 19,000 Palestinian martyrs have fallen, the majority of them civilians, and over 51,000 others have been injured in various ways. Additionally, around 8,000 or more remain among the missing under the rubble of destroyed homes due to the Israeli war on Gaza.
