Voices Silenced: Palestinian Worker Faces Job Termination in Saudi Arabia for Gaza Solidarity
A Palestinian young man was dismissed from his workplace in Saudi Arabia due to solidarity posts with Gaza

Watan-A Palestinian young man revealed that he was dismissed from his job at the Saudi company Darah due to his posts expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause, particularly amid the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

The young man appeared in a video, stating that he was terminated from his job after being pressured to stop posting about Gaza and the Palestinian issue. He claimed that he objected to this, but despite the employment contract not mentioning anything about his social media pages, emotions, or beliefs, he attributed the dismissal to the prevalent “ghab” law in the Kingdom.

He pointed out that the company took advantage of his expatriate status, living alone, and thought that by blackmailing him, he would comply with its instructions. However, he affirmed that he drew strength from Allah and decided to be part of the suffering currently experienced by the Palestinian people.

The Saudi stance on the Gaza war

The official positions of Saudi Arabia regarding the situation in Palestinian territories during the Israeli war on Gaza have stirred a state of anger.

Authorities have taken the step of arresting a large number of pilgrims who expressed solidarity with Palestinians through prayers during the performance of Umrah, in a move that was perceived as prohibiting sympathy with Gaza in the Kingdom.

Observers describe the positions of the Saudi Crown Prince and the de facto ruler of the kingdom, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as having moved beyond the stage of indifference and silence to complicity and possibly alliance with Israel in order to eliminate Palestinian resistance and expedite normalization more quickly.

Saudi Pain for Israeli Casualties

Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid al-Falih, expressed his sympathy and pain for the Israeli casualties in the Al-Aqsa Flood operation carried out by Palestinian resistance. However, he did not utter a single word of condemnation for the occupation’s crimes, limiting his remarks to general statements about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

During a panel discussion at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, al-Falih affirmed that normalization of relations with Israel is still on the table, noting that normalization is always conditioned on reaching a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue.
