Unraveling the Deceptive Narrative: The Truth Behind Sisi’s Alleged Call to Liquidate Hamas

Watan-Video clips have circulated on social media platforms, claiming that the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for the liquidation of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas, describing it as a ‘noble goal.’ However, the video is edited and compiled from different parts, as observed by (Watan).

The circulated clip showed Sisi speaking after his meeting with the French President Emmanuel Macron, discussing ‘efforts to revive peace in the region’ and stating that both the Egyptian and French sides agreed to liquidate the Hamas movement, working together towards this noble goal.

What is the truth about Sisi’s video?

The original video dates back to a press conference where the Egyptian coup leader met with the French President Emmanuel Macron on October 25, 2023, discussing Sisi’s call to liquidate Hamas.

This came after Macron’s regional tour, which included the occupied Palestinian territories, the West Bank, and Jordan, amid allegations of an attempt to prevent the escalation of war and push towards restarting the peace process after years of stagnation.

In the full version of the joint press conference, Sisi did not say that “liquidating Hamas is a noble goal”; rather, he stated, “We must revive the peace process in the region, especially regarding the two-state solution.”

The Egyptian president added, “We agree with His Excellency the President to move and work together for this noble goal, which is containing the crisis, preventing its escalation, and providing aid.”

The objective of eliminating Hamas

In other statements, Sisi mentioned that “the declared goal of the war is to eliminate Hamas and the armed factions in the [Gaza] Strip.” He continued the statement by saying, “We know that this requires a very long time, hence the importance of seeking to avoid a ground invasion of the Strip.”

The circulation of the edited clip persists despite Sisi’s actions aligning with the agenda of the occupation and the elimination of Gaza, as confirmed by social media users.

This coincides with international calls for a ceasefire amid significant civilian casualties in Gaza due to the Israeli war and indiscriminate targeting of Gaza’s neighborhoods.

During the night, brutal bombing operations continue, especially in Khan Yunis and Rafah, near the border with Egypt, where tens of thousands of displaced people reside in tents. The Egyptian regime remains passive despite the significant humanitarian tragedy at its borders.

Media reports suggest that Egyptian and Qatari mediators are still trying to negotiate a new ceasefire after an initial one lasting a week at the end of November.
