Tragedy Strikes Al Jazeera Correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh: Mourning the Loss of Son and Family in Gaza

Watan-Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh is mourning the loss of his son Hamza, who was martyred in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

This is not the first time Wael Al-Dahdouh has faced tragedy, as earlier, several members of his family were martyred, and he himself was injured in another airstrike.

Wael Al-Dahdouh was asked about the worst moments he has experienced during the war on Gaza. He responded that the worst moments are when the journalist becomes the news instead of seeking the news. He added that it is even worse when the journalist becomes the image and headline of the news instead of their task being to convey the image. He pointed out that this scenario is the toughest thing that anyone can endure or swallow.

Hamza Al-Dahdouh, a journalist for Al Jazeera and the son of Wael Al-Dahdouh, the bureau chief of the channel in the Gaza Strip, was martyred in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a vehicle he was traveling in west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Al Jazeera reported that Al-Dahdouh, the son, was martyred along with another journalist, Mustafa Thraya, in an Israeli reconnaissance plane’s airstrike on the vehicle.
