Al-Farouq Brigades: Unveiling a New Force in Sinai’s Geopolitical Landscape

Watan-A group calling itself the “Al-Farouq Brigades” in Sinai, Egypt, announced its support for the Palestinian resistance in its battle against the Israeli occupation forces, which have been waging a campaign of extermination against the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7th of last year.

The Al-Farouq Brigades released a statement, seemingly recorded about 22 days prior, addressing messages to the Zionist entity, Arab armies, and the people. The video was leaked shortly after reports of armed individuals attempting to breach the border from the Egyptian side with Gaza, leading to clashes at the Al-Auja crossing. Egyptian authorities claimed they were drug smugglers.

The emergence of this group comes about a year after the Egyptian regime’s announcement, by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, of “eliminating terrorism.” In April of the previous year, he declared that “terrorism has ended in Egypt,” emphasizing that only the state’s weapons would be allowed.

The video of the alleged Al-Farouq Brigades has circulated on social media without official comments from Egyptian security authorities until now. Analysts speculate that this group may be affiliated with the Sinai Province organization or Ansar Beit al-Maqdis.

In the video, three masked individuals armed with weapons appeared with the group’s flag in the background, along with an image of the Egyptian soldier Mohamed Salah, the perpetrator of the attack on Israeli soldiers in Sinai last year.

One of them began reading the statement with a disguised voice, declaring their initiative from the blessed land of Sinai, in support of the brave resistance in besieged Gaza and as revenge for the blood of over twenty thousand martyrs, including innocent children and women, in beloved Palestine.

The statement continued by condemning the ongoing Zionist aggression on Gaza for more than 80 days, highlighting the blockade, prevention of humanitarian aid, and the bombing of hospitals, mosques, churches, and shelters. It criticized the world’s silence in the face of these atrocities.

The First Statement of Al-Farouq Brigades: ‘And the Image of Soldier Mohamed Salah

The Al-Farouq Brigades’ statement included three messages: one to the Zionist occupier, stating that their continued crimes against children and women in Gaza would not change the reality of their failure, defeat, and the disgraceful state of their army. They threatened that their borders were exposed from the south to the north.

The second message was directed at the Egyptian armed forces and any armed groups in the surrounding countries, warning them that God, history, and the oppressed, including women and children, would not forgive their negligence.

3 Messages from Al-Farouq Brigades – Sinai

The third message called on Arab nations to unite against the weak and faltering enemy, urging them to break the chains of cowardice and humiliation.

Does Al-Farouq Brigades have any connection to the Egyptian-Israeli border clashes?

The appearance of this group and its statement has sparked widespread debate and speculation on social media in Egypt and the Arab world, with questions about the identity of the group and its affiliation, as well as the reasons for its emergence at this specific time and its potential connection to recent border clashes between Egypt and Israel.
