Alarming Statistics Reveal One-Third of Israelis Desperate for Psychological Treatment
Fear in Israel of a surge in suicide rates following the Al-Aqsa storm

Watan-It seems that the Al-Aqsa storm operation has shaken everything in Israel, not only on a military level but also psychologically.

The Israeli newspaper “Jerusalem Post” revealed one of the consequences of the Al-Aqsa storm operation, carried out by Palestinian resistance on October 7th last year, which is the deterioration of the Israeli mental health system.

The Israeli newspaper stated that the data related to suicide in Israel is puzzling, with no clear trends to guide the provision of care and mental health treatment.

According to the director of the Trauma Treatment Center, Tzvia Suleiman, the number of suicide cases and suicidal thoughts has increased significantly since October 7th.

One-third of Israelis in need of psychological treatment

The newspaper also pointed out that one in three Israelis needs psychological treatment due to the war, which is not readily available due to appointment unavailability.

Research in Israel reveals that therapists are more likely to refuse to work with patients at risk of suicide, instead referring them to other doctors at higher rates than referrals for depressed patients.

Moreover, there has been a 25% increase in the use of psychiatric medications after the war.

Mental health system on the brink of collapse

It should be noted that a group of heads of mental health centers in Israel had sent a letter to the State Comptroller Netanyahu Ingleman, warning of the “approaching collapse of the mental health system.”

The letter reported an increasing need for psychiatric services, especially after the events of October 7th, as the system has been handling around 300,000 new patients in need of assistance since then.

50% suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms

A few weeks ago, the results of a study involving 420 Israelis aged 18 and above were released, showing that 34% of them experienced symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and the percentage rose to 50% for individuals directly affected by the October 7th attack.
