Watan-The BBC presenter, Victoria Derbyshire, embarrassed the Israeli government spokesperson, Elon Levy, after he claimed that Israel did not show any intention of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
During the interview, Levy stated that South Africa decided to play what he called the “role of the devil’s advocate” and serve as the legal arm for the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas.
Derbyshire interrupted him, saying, “I’ll stop you here if I may because every point I raise with you, almost every question I ask you, you answer with something unrelated to the question.”
Levy responded, “Allow me to answer directly. The lawyer there working as a legal representative for Hamas, accusing Israel of committing genocide, presents a completely upside-down reality, as there is no Hamas in it and it did not take hostages. Israel decided in the bright morning to start bombing Gaza.”
He added, “On the 7th of October, we experienced genocide when Hamas attacked us.”

The presenter interrupted, saying, “I want to ask you about these comments made by Israeli politicians since October 7th, and I hope we can display the quotes.”
The presenter presented a statement from Israeli
President Isaac Herzog, who said that Gaza as a whole is responsible for what happened on October 7th. She also confronted the government spokesperson with a statement from Israeli Agriculture Minister Avi Gabbay, who said they are working on implementing a disaster in Gaza.
Derbyshire pointed out that the term “disaster” refers to the terrible catastrophe that occurred after the 1948 war when Palestinians were subjected to ethnic cleansing.
She also mentioned a statement from a Knesset spokesperson saying that the Israeli army is working to erase the Gaza Strip from the face of the earth.
Derbyshire noted that many consider that Israel no longer wants Palestinians in Gaza at all.
South Africa’s Lawsuit against Israel On December 29th last year, South Africa filed a lawsuit before the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing “crimes of genocide” in the Gaza Strip, which has been under intense warfare for over three months.
During January 11th and 12th, the court held two public hearings in The Hague to consider the lawsuit.
