Gaza’s Desperate Struggle: Children Grind Animal Feed Amidst Blockade and War
Scenes of Gaza Children Cleaning Animal Feed

Watan-The humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip is worsening, as it faces a strict blockade coinciding with the brutal war waged by the occupying army since October 7th of last year.

As an indication of the famine striking Gaza, videos have circulated showing children cleaning animal feed to grind it as a substitute for the missing wheat due to the blockade imposed by the occupation and its ongoing war on the region.

A large number of children have been seen sitting on the ground, attempting to clean animal feed to compensate for the unavailable wheat.

Widespread Anger

These scenes have sparked widespread anger on social media platforms in solidarity with the besieged Palestinians in Gaza.

Reactions focused on criticizing Arab rulers who leave Gaza under siege, with some accusing them of participating in the blockade.

Human rights activist Bilal Nizar said, “Amid the severe famine hitting the city of Gaza and the north, people are left with only expired animal feed to eat.”

Journalist Anas al-Sharif wrote, “The suffering is increasing day by day due to the suffocating and continuous Israeli blockade on the city of Gaza and the north of the Strip. Some children in displaced persons’ schools are cleaning and sorting what remains of animal feed to be ground for flour amid the major famine affecting the residents.”

Media personality Ramia Ibrahim stated, “Do you know what these children in northern Gaza are doing? They are cleaning animal feed to grind it to make bread. This is on the conscience of the Arab rulers who live in their palaces, organize parties and festivals, and call for banquets. Shame on you, by God.”

Famine in Gaza

After 108 days since the start of the war on Gaza, residents in the northern part of the Strip are on the brink of a real famine, threatening those who survived the indiscriminate shelling by the occupation with death by hunger.

Signs of famine emerged when the canned goods, which Gazans relied on for their food since the beginning of the aggression, disappeared from the markets. This was followed by the disappearance of wheat flour from the markets, prompting Palestinians to resort to grinding corn and barley intended for animal feed.

According to the General Director of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail al-Thawabteh, more than 400,000 Palestinians are living in a real famine in the northern province of the Strip. The authorities have called on the Egyptian authorities to expedite the opening of the Rafah crossing for humanitarian aid.
