Controversial ‘7 October’ Restaurant Sparks Tensions: Jordan’s Commemoration of Historic Event Ignites Israeli Anger
7 October Restaurant

Watan-In the Jordanian city of Al-Karak, a shawarma restaurant named “7 October” has opened, symbolizing the resistance operation launched by Palestinians on October 7, 2023, against Gaza border settlements (Operation Al-Aqsa Flood). This event stirred widespread Israeli anger.

A video circulating on social media shows Jordanians flocking to the new restaurant with the name “7 October” displayed on its front.

The restaurant’s name has garnered admiration from Twitter users as it commemorates a historic event in Palestinian resistance that left an impact on Israeli soil, according to their perspective.

Twitter user Ahmed Al-Banali stated, “The city of Al-Karak in southern Jordan witnesses the opening of the world’s first restaurant named 7 October. The simplicity of the restaurant’s name belies a deeper idea… the hearts of Arab peoples beat with love for Gaza, its resilience, actions, and brave resistance against the Zionist entity! Hearts will continue to pulsate with October 7… this date will remain eternal and engraved in them, no matter how they try to erase it and push us to forget it!”

Israeli Anger at the 7 October Restaurant in Al-Karak!

On the other hand, Israeli media attacked Jordan, expressing anger over the opening of a restaurant named after the “7 October” attack.

The Hebrew newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” stated that the restaurant in a country with which we have a peace agreement is another sign of deteriorating relations with Jordan.

Journalist Nadav Eyal in “Yedioth” considered the opening of the restaurant, named after the 7 October attacks, not an isolated incident. Jordanians have shown significant support for what he described as the “massacres” committed by Hamas.

The Hebrew newspaper “Maariv” considered the move another step in “anti-Semitism,” as it described it.

In response, the leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, commented, “The disgraceful glorification of October 7 must stop. We expect the Jordanian government to publicly and unequivocally condemn this.”

Meanwhile, an Israeli account posted an angry comment about the restaurant’s opening: “Let’s start this morning from Jordan, which we provide with drinking water for free at our expense. They opened a shawarma restaurant in one of the suburbs of Karak and named it October 7 in commemoration of the massacre of Jews and Israelis and in support of Nazi Hamas.”

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Jordan. Previously, a cafe named “Hola Gusta” referring to the “Holocaust” opened in the Zarqa Governorate, according to Jordanian Twitter users.
