Watan-The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz highlighted the characteristics of the projectiles launched by the Qassam Brigades in Gaza, which killed 21 soldiers after the detonation and collapse of buildings in the Maghazi camp. The newspaper confirmed that these projectiles are produced by the Hamas movement, have a dual warhead, and are named “Yassin 105.”
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, published footage on Tuesday, claiming to document the moments of their complex operation against Israeli occupation soldiers and vehicles east of the Maghazi camp in central Gaza.
Haaretz reported that the incident on the “catastrophic” day for the occupation and its soldiers involved an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) projectile based on the PG-7VR model developed by the Soviet Union in 1988.
Haaretz explained that the Yassin 105 projectile is a reproduction of a Russian projectile equipped with a dual warhead: the first for detonating the tank’s initial armor, and the second for penetrating its body.
On Tuesday, the Israeli occupation acknowledged the killing of 21 officers and soldiers in its ranks in the Gaza Strip, shortly after 13 of its forces were killed in Khan Yunis in the southern part of the Strip.
The Israeli army radio revealed that forces from the 261st Brigade were conducting operations to booby-trap Palestinian homes in the Maghazi camp near the buffer zone in central Gaza.
Yassin 105
The developed Yassin 105 projectiles were part of an endless arms race between the missile and the tank (referring to Hamas rockets and the occupation’s tanks).
The newspaper pointed out that the projectile that hit the mined buildings in the Maghazi camp was developed to increase penetration capability. After its development, the projectile became heavier, and its penetration capability increased to about 60 cm in reactive armor for the occupation tanks.
These developed projectiles can penetrate up to 750 mm of steel armor and up to 600 mm of armor protected by reactive layers, according to more precise figures.
Haaretz confirmed that Yassin 105 is a locally manufactured projectile that Hamas was able to develop. After the war, they were capable of producing it again without any problems despite the blockade and all the restrictions in Gaza.
Details of the Maghazi Operation
Israeli soldiers entered a distance of 600 meters from the buffer zone in the Maghazi camp to destroy ten houses using mines.
During the booby-trapping operation, they were subjected to two RPG shell attacks, the first launched at a tank and the second at a building containing explosives and mines.
According to Haaretz, the warhead of the projectile spews a mass of molten metal, which can relatively easily penetrate the target’s armor, requiring a relatively low force.
The attack caused the mines to explode, and two buildings collapsed on top of the soldiers, turning the area into complete destruction. Multiple forces were sent to extract the dead and evacuate the wounded from the scene.
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Haggai, after publishing details of the soldiers’ deaths, acknowledged that they are facing difficult security conditions, describing what happened in the past hours as a real disaster, emphasizing that war comes at a very high cost.
