US Launches Retaliatory Airstrikes in Syria and Iraq After Fatal Attack
The first wave of American airstrikes in Syria and Iraq has begun.

Watan-The ABC News network reported that the United States has initiated airstrikes against targets in Syria and Iraq in response to an attack by armed Iraqi groups affiliated with Iran. This attack took place on a Jordanian base a few days ago, resulting in the deaths of three American soldiers and the injury of over 40 others.

Previously, the United States had targeted leaders and elements associated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard present in Syria. It appears that the airstrikes announced on Friday evening will be directed at targets affiliated with Iran and its elements in Syrian territory.

ABC News quoted a US official saying, “US strikes in Syria have begun in response to the Jordan attack.”

Initial American strikes on areas in Syria and Iraq

The channel reported that the United States started carrying out retaliatory strikes in Iraq and Syria on Friday, likely against militants supported by Iran. This comes in response to a drone strike on a US base in Jordan last Sunday, which resulted in the killing of three US service members.

Dozens of US forces were also injured in this attack, which was carried out by a drone on “Base 22” near the Jordanian border with Iraq and Syria. The United States accuses Iran of financing and arming the group responsible for the attack, while Iran denies involvement.

After the attack on Sunday, President Joe Biden quickly warned that the United States would respond forcefully, leading to an escalation of American intervention in the Middle East after months of attempting to contain tensions, fueled by Israeli aggression in Gaza, from escalating into a wider war in the region.

On another note, the Syrian Observatory reported renewed airstrikes on Iranian-affiliated forces’ headquarters in the “Al-Hudayriat” area in eastern Syria.
