Watan-Two people were killed and three others, including a police officer, were injured in a shooting in front of the Justice Palace building in Istanbul, Turkey, while Turkish authorities considered what happened to be a terrorist act.
Video footage, which circulated on social media platforms, documented the first moments of the shooting.
Details of the shooting operation
According to Anadolu Agency, gunfire was opened by one or more unknown individuals in the square overlooking the “Çağlayan” Justice Palace.
Initial information indicated that two people were killed and three others, including a police officer, were injured as a result of the shooting.
Following the shooting, a large number of security forces and ambulance teams arrived at the scene.
First official comment from Turkish authorities
In the first comment from the authorities, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that what he described as the attack occurred around 11:45 (local time) in front of gate “C” of the Justice Palace in Istanbul.
He added in a post on the “X” platform that the attackers, a man and a woman, were neutralized, while 5 people, including 3 security personnel, were injured.
Disclosure of the perpetrator
The Turkish minister explained that the shooting in front of a court in Istanbul was a terrorist attack carried out by the Front of the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party.
In a striking coincidence, media reports revealed that the last operation carried out by this front was nine years ago and was in the same location as the operation that occurred on Tuesday morning, which resulted in a fatality.
