Watan-Haaretz newspaper revealed intriguing details about the incident of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir fleeing from his security guards and having to ride in his neighbor’s car to leave his home in the Kiryat Arba settlement.

The newspaper cited several sources stating that the security guards had to chase the minister for several kilometers.

According to one source, the security guards managed to block the car at the Kiryat Arba junction on Route 60, where they persuaded the minister to get into his armored car.

Sources explained this incident by saying that Ben Gvir was angry because his armored car driver did not arrive at his house in the morning and that the team was not ready for him as expected.

After Ben Gvir yelled at the security personnel, one of his neighbors’ cars entered without the security team, and the two headed towards the Kiryat Arba exit towards Route 60, a road that crosses the West Bank and, according to the newspaper, witnesses many attacks on settlers.

Itamar Ben Gvir resides in the Giv’at Avot neighborhood adjacent to Hebron, a road that passes near Palestinian homes.

The security team decided to pursue the Minister of National Security to prevent him from being harmed during the journey, and after a few minutes, the guards managed to overtake the car, according to the newspaper.

One source said that Ben Gvir initially refused to transfer to the security guards’ car and was angry with them, claiming they were violating the rules because he had immunity, so they couldn’t demand him to ride in the car, until he eventually complied.

Securing Itamar Ben Gvir

It’s worth noting that the security responsibility for Itamar Ben Gvir lies with “Magen,” a unit under the Prime Minister’s Office managed by the Personal Security Unit of the Shin Bet.

His security measures include a specialized team and an additional security vehicle traveling alongside his armored vehicle, in addition to security at his home.

A completely serious incident

The newspaper stated that prominent figures in the Shin Bet and the Prime Minister’s Office were informed of the incident and criticized Ben Gvir’s behavior, which they said posed a security threat, describing the incident as “a completely serious accident.”

They said Ben Gvir “endangered himself and the security guards in a highly threatening area. This is not the first time security has been jeopardized on the road.
