Watan-A secret meeting was held gathering Israeli occupation leaders with officials from the Palestinian Authority to coordinate calming the situation in the occupied West Bank during the month of Ramadan.
This was reported by Israeli Channel 12, which stated that the secret meeting did not touch upon the day following the Israeli occupation’s war against Gaza.
Who attended the meeting?
The channel stated that the secret meeting brought together the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, and the head of the Israeli National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, along with the coordinator of the Israeli occupation government’s activities in the Palestinian territories, Ghassan Alyan, with the head of the General Authority for Civil Affairs in the Palestinian Authority, Hussein al-Sheikh, in Tel Aviv.
The channel quoted an informed source as saying that the officials discussed efforts to calm the situation in the occupied West Bank and prevent escalation during Ramadan.
Reason for secrecy on the meeting
According to the same source, the meeting was not publicized through the media due to repeated attacks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Palestinian Authority.
The Israeli channel confirmed that the two parties did not discuss “the day after the end of the war on Gaza,” as the Israeli occupation does not believe that the current Palestinian Authority can be a party in managing Gaza after the war.
Tensions in the West Bank
The Israeli occupation army escalated violence against Palestinians in the West Bank in recent months, with at least 507 Palestinians killed in the West Bank in 2023, including at least 81 children.
This toll made last year the bloodiest for Palestinians since the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs began recording casualties in 2005.
