Watan-The sailing of the Egyptian ship “PAN GG” to Israel and its arrival on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the distant Israeli port of Ashdod, 28 kilometers away from the besieged Gaza Strip, sparked wide reactions and questions about its ownership.
Data related to ship movements in the area revealed the Egyptian ship’s movement and its ownership. It is the ship “PAN GG,” which was built in 2002 and sails under the flag of Egypt.
According to the data, the ship departed from the Egyptian port of Port Said on Thursday, February 8, 2024, and arrived at the port of Ashdod at (22:46) GMT and is still anchored there until 9:30 GMT on Friday.
Repeated and scheduled trips to Israel
According to ship movement tracking data around the world, the Egyptian ship has headed to Israeli ports four times since January 19, 2023, until February 8, 2024.
On January 26, the ship arrived at the port of Haifa, then headed to the port of Ashdod on January 28, and returned to Ashdod on February 2. Its latest trip to the same port was on February 8, 2024.
During the past year, the Egyptian ship arrived at Ashdod 26 times, surpassing its arrivals at ports in Port Said, Alexandria, Damietta, and Dekheila. It has other scheduled trips from Egypt to Israel, and the ship is expected to depart from Port Said to Ashdod and vice versa from February 12, 2024, to March 3, 2024.
Egyptian journalist Osama Gaweesh commented on this, saying that the ship’s heading to Israel comes at a time when “Egypt cannot even bring in a single aid truck to the Gaza Strip without Israel’s permission and sends a complete ship to the port of Ashdod more than once.”
Who owns the Egyptian ship PAN GG?
According to media sources, the ownership of the ship belongs to the Egyptian shipping group “Pan Marine,” which was established in 1978.
Data from the International Maritime Organization indicates that the ship is owned by “Pan Marine Shipping Co.” and has a gross weight of 12,450 tons, with a capacity of 1,155 containers.
It is worth mentioning that it is not clear what type of cargo the ship transports between Egyptian and Israeli ports, but it is likely to include frozen, canned, and dry food items and other types of goods destined for the occupation.
For months, Israel has continued its brutal war against the Gaza Strip, with Rafah in the southern part of the Strip witnessing intense bombardment, coinciding with warnings of an Israeli military catastrophe in this area, to which more than half of Gaza’s population has fled.
