Watan-The “Taqen” platform, dedicated to verifying and correcting news, refuted a recent claim circulating on social media about the martyrdom of Hazem Ismail Haniyeh, the son of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, allegedly targeted by Israeli forces.
It was revealed that the news is old and the young man is a relative of the political bureau chief of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and not his son.
The truth behind the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh’s son
The “Taqen” platform, an informational project aimed at monitoring inaccurate information and correcting it through various means, investigated the news and found it was previously circulated on the internet on October 17, 2023, with the same name and image just 10 days after the start of the war.

After the news resurfaced on February 10, 2024, the “Taqen” team contacted journalist Islam Badr, who has been covering the war on Gaza since its inception and publishing war news from inside the besieged Gaza Strip. Badr confirmed that the young man is indeed a relative of Hamas’s political bureau chief but not his son. He also noted that the closest martyrs to Ismail Haniyeh during the war are his grandchildren.
Previously, Ruaa Hamam, Ismail Haniyeh’s granddaughter, was martyred in November by an Israeli airstrike targeting the Al-Buraq school in Gaza, where her family had sought refuge after fleeing the Shati refugee camp. The school housed a large number of civilians, and many martyrs, including women and children, perished in the attack.
Additionally, Haniyeh’s eldest grandson was martyred two weeks later, and Palestinian media outlets clarified that he was martyred alongside his daughter.
