Unveiling the Escalating Threat: Weapons Theft in the Israeli Army Amidst War

Watan-An official Hebrew channel revealed the widening phenomenon of weapons theft from members of the Israeli occupation army under the cover of war.

The “Kan” channel, affiliated with the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, stated that there is a concerning increase in the phenomenon of theft of weapons and ammunition in the Israeli army under the cover of war, amid fears that they might also reach armed groups in the West Bank.

On his part, Roee Sharon, the military correspondent for the channel, said: “In the Israeli army, there is indeed concern about soldiers or even civilians stealing high-explosive hand grenades as well as anti-tank missiles.”

He added that the theft operations are carried out from inside the Gaza Strip or from areas where forces gather outside it, and transferred to what he described as “criminal organizations,” and from there to organizations he described as terrorist.

Sharon explained that although each bomb and anti-tank missile has a serial number, in war there is a lot of chaos, with continuous arms supply operations, and the bombs and missiles launched are not counted.

He pointed out that this facilitates soldiers’ theft of grenades and anti-tank missiles and taking them home either as souvenirs or for sale.

During the current week, a Palestinian from East Jerusalem was arrested while he was in northern Israel with an anti-tank missile of the Matador type, which the army heavily uses in the Gaza Strip.

Also, last month, according to the Israeli analyst, 15 hand grenades were launched within 10 days, which are not old grenades but modern versions used by the army.

Amid fears of these weapons reaching from inside the Green Line (1948 territories) to the West Bank, the occupation army intends to tighten inspection operations at Israeli crossings and checkpoints.

Israeli media recently revealed that the Israeli Border Police found three high-explosive hand grenades stolen from the army in the possession of Israeli criminals in the city of “Or Akiva” near the city of Haifa (north).

It is worth noting that in recent years, the Israeli army has revealed many incidents of theft of weapons and ammunition carried out by soldiers from inside military bases.
