Desperation in Gaza: Family Slaughters Horse Amid Famine Crisis

Watan-With the intensification of the famine in northern Gaza as a result of the imposed Israeli blockade, and the prevention of aid from reaching over half a million Palestinians there, after the residents consumed the animal feed, a family was forced to slaughter a horse to cook and eat its meat.

This was reported by Ismail Al-Ghoul, a correspondent for Al-Jazeera from Gaza City, who said that he received images of a family slaughtering a horse at Al-Falah School, which was previously targeted by the occupation.

He pointed out that the locals are rushing to that family to take whatever meat they can from the horse to eat, amidst the severe famine that is plaguing them.

In the context, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Ashraf al-Qidra, confirmed that 350,000 patients, 60,000 pregnant women, and 700,000 children are suffering serious complications due to malnutrition and dehydration.

Al-Qidra accused the Israeli occupation army of putting the residents of Gaza in the triangle of death, represented by targeting with shelling, famine, and epidemics. He emphasized that the continuation of the Israeli aggression means further genocide.

Meanwhile, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, accused Israel of seeking to collectively punish Palestinians by starving them.

He warned that the level of hunger currently witnessed in Gaza is “unprecedented” and constitutes “genocide,” according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.

The people of Gaza and the north have resorted to grinding animal feed to obtain the necessary flour for baking bread and ensuring their survival, but the stockpile of those grains is dwindling significantly.

The residents of northern Gaza are experiencing difficult conditions, often finding themselves spending entire days without food. The situation requires adults to endure hunger so that children can have food.
