Watan-A video clip summarizing the famine situation that has struck the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli war since October 7th was circulated.

The clip showed a number of children in the Gaza Strip sharing with a donkey scavenging from a box presumed to be a garbage container.

Gazans, especially in the northern areas, are facing the real danger of famine according to international organizations. Palestinians scream hunger amid the rubble of their homes, where bread has become a dream for them to feed their children.

Philip Lazareen, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), stated that the agency has been unable to deliver any aid to northern Gaza for over a month.

He added that famine cannot be avoided unless more aid trucks arrive. The agency says there has been a “50 percent decrease” in humanitarian aid entering Gaza during February compared to January.

Humanitarian Disaster

The Gaza Strip is suffering a major humanitarian disaster, with the United Nations announcing that 2.2 million people, the vast majority of the population, are threatened by “mass starvation.”

The entry of aid into Gaza is subject to Israeli approval, and transporting it to the northern part of the Strip has become nearly impossible. There, 300,000 people are facing famine, according to the United Nations.

Many Palestinians have been forced to eat tree leaves, livestock feed, and horse meat after slaughtering them.

Accusations against Israel

Human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have accused Israel of imposing additional restrictions on humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip, despite an order issued by the United Nations Supreme Court.

The two organizations stated that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has actually decreased by nearly a third since the ruling, as part of the case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of violating the United Nations Convention on Genocide Prevention.
