Watan-A video clip caused a wide uproar on social media after footage surfaced, purportedly in the United States, showing a family raising a pig in their home and naming it Omar.
The clip was described as a great audacity, as homeowners not only raised a pig in their house but also placed it on a special bed and labeled it with the name Omar, the same name they gave it.
The video sparked great anger from viewers, with comments such as, “May Allah’s anger be upon you… in the Hereafter, your punishment will be severe from the Lord of the Worlds,” while another wrote, “Name it Biden, as it suits it more.”
Others criticized the Turkish media for reporting this news without verifying the time and place of the footage, which gained widespread attention and was published by the Turkish newspaper Takvim.
Hate speech and Islamophobia have been escalating
A study conducted in the United States by political scientist Costas Panagopoulos in 2006 showed that public sentiment towards Muslims in the country combines low levels of awareness of basic Islamic tenets with increasing concern and hatred towards this community.
The American website Salon described the prevalent phenomenon of Muslim hatred in the country as horrifying, noting expectations of a possible decrease in some stereotypical aggressive images towards the Muslim community over time, which did not happen.
The source pointed out that it is evident that Islamophobia is on the rise, with its prevalence increasing in American society.
