Watan-The Quality and Economic Institute in the healthcare sector in Germany warned against “Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,” which results from prolonged use of the computer mouse.
“Carpal Tunnel Syndrome” refers to the narrowing of the carpal tunnel in the wrist. The institute pointed out that narrowing this tunnel causes compression of a nerve that supplies certain areas of the hand.
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in the wrist through which the median nerve and tendons controlling finger movement pass.
The Quality and Economic Institute in the healthcare sector in Germany explained that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is often due to excessive wrist strain, such as prolonged computer mouse use.
How can Carpal Tunnel Syndrome be addressed? Other risk factors include rheumatism, diabetes, kidney failure, injuries, fluid retention, and obesity.
The institute also noted that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be managed through applications of cold and heat, such as cold packs, warm water baths, and alternating warm and cold baths.
If these measures fail to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, consulting a doctor is recommended. Treatment options may include cortisone injections or splinting, while severe cases may require surgery to widen the carpal tunnel.
