Watan-A report by Bloomberg reveals that the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has reclaimed the title of the world’s richest man, surpassing Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk.
This comes after Jeff Bezos’ net worth reached around $200 billion, compared to Musk’s $198 billion, according to the agency’s billionaire index.
Musk lost $31 billion last year, while Bezos saw profits of $23 billion.
Musk had previously claimed the top spot in May 2023, after surpassing Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH Group.
Arnault owns brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Celine, with his current wealth reaching $197 billion, with profits of $18.3 billion.
Following Arnault on the list is Meta’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg, with a wealth of around $197 billion, and then Microsoft’s founder, Bill Gates, with a value of $150 billion.
A Wide Gap Enters the World
It is noted that Oxfam International, which has been trying for years to highlight the growing disparities between the wealthy and the majority of the world’s population, revealed in a report released last January that the gap has become “extremely large” since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oxfam’s interim executive director, Amitabh Behar, stated that the report shows the world is “entering a decade of division.”
Behar added: “The wealth of the top five billionaires in the world has doubled. On the other hand, about 5 billion people are now poorer in the world.”
He continued: “Oxfam expects the world to witness its first trillionaire within a decade, while we need more than 200 years to combat poverty.”
