Watan-The prominent Kuwaiti businessman, Mohammad Al-Sharakh, gained attention after his passing announcement. He was the first to introduce the Arabic language to computers. He founded the “Sakhr” company for computer software.

The Kuwaiti newspaper “Al-Qabas” reported Al-Sharakh’s death at the age of 82. He was the founder and chairman of the board of “Sakhr” company for computer software.

Who is Mohammad Al-Sharakh?

Mohammad Al-Sharakh was a member of the board of directors of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Washington. He also served as deputy managing director of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Al-Sharakh, who held a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Cairo University in 1965, founded the Global Electronics Company in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

The “Sakhr” computer, established by the late Mohammad Al-Sharakh, was a joint project between the Global Electronics Company and the Japanese company Yamaha.

This computer was one of the first to use the Arabic language. Al-Sharakh then worked on developing automatic reading, automatic translation, and automatic pronunciation, according to the Arab Portal for Technology News.

The late Al-Sharakh also received international patents in this field, which forced the giant Microsoft to partner with him, along with major Japanese companies.

UNESCO and the Arab World Institute in Paris collaborated with Al-Sharakh to benefit from his projects. He was the first to focus on the Quranic text and its translations on computers, as well as the collections of prophetic traditions (Hadith) and their archiving. He was awarded the King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in recognition of his achievements.
