Watan-The son of the Palestinian leader Marwan Al-Barghouti, who has been detained in Israeli prisons since his arrest in 2002, revealed that the occupation has tightened its grip on him since October 7, 2023. He was transferred to solitary confinement and to four different prisons during the months following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.

In a recorded interview with CNN, Al-Barghouti stated that his father is a unified figure for the Palestinian people and has been a fighter throughout his life for peace, not just for the peace of the Palestinian people, but also for the region as a whole.

Arab Al-Barghouti added in his interview: “But I believe that the Israeli government is not interested in a personality working for a genuine two-state solution and a just peace, not any kind of peace.”

Regarding his father’s detention conditions, Al-Barghouti’s son said: “My father has been transferred to solitary confinement since October 7 and has been transferred to four different prisons in the past three months.”

He added about the conditions Marwan Al-Barghouti is enduring in Israeli detention: “We know about very harsh conditions, inhumane conditions. He has been placed in a cell without electricity, without cleanliness, or clothes that any human would need, and this hurts me a lot because he doesn’t belong there, he belongs among the Palestinian people.”

Regarding his father not being released in exchange for Gilad Shalit, Al-Barghouti stated that “anyone with a sound mind would look at my father’s journey and see that he was a very brave person in the peace process. He’s a person who took real steps to unite the Palestinian people and unify them towards a two-state solution, and he’s not ashamed of that.”

Al-Barghouti mentioned that his father “didn’t start the struggle for the rights of Palestinians a year or two ago. He’s been doing it for over 50 years now.”

He continued: “All I care about as his son, to be honest with you, is for him to be safe and to be released. And of course, the primary priority for every Palestinian is to stop the firing and stop the genocide because I want to be sensitive to our people in Gaza who are going through something unprecedented.”

The latest statements of Al-Barghouti after the Al-Aqsa Flood

After the Al-Aqsa Flood, in December 2023, Marwan Al-Barghouti issued a statement calling on the people of the West Bank and Fatah Movement cadres to rise up against the occupation in a comprehensive confrontation and not to be “mere witnesses but active soldiers in this decisive battle.”
