U.S. Rejects Arab Plan for Gaza Reconstruction, Aligns with Israeli Vision

Washington's opposition to the $53 billion Arab initiative sparks criticism, as efforts mount to reshape Gaza’s future without Hamas.

Watan-In a surprising move that reflects the American bias toward Israel, Washington has announced its outright rejection of the Arab plan proposed during the emergency Cairo summit for the reconstruction of Gaza. Instead of supporting Arab efforts aimed at stabilizing the region, the U.S. administration has adhered to former President Donald Trump’s proposal, which calls for the displacement of Gaza’s residents and the reconstruction of the strip in a way that ensures the complete exclusion of Hamas from the political scene.

The American statements came shortly after the conclusion of the summit, with the U.S. National Security Council asserting that “the Arab plan does not address the current situation in Gaza and that the strip is no longer habitable due to extensive destruction and unexploded ordnance.” The statement added that Washington believes Gaza’s reconstruction should follow a different vision, one that involves fundamental changes in the power structure, aligning with Israeli interests.

In a stance aligned with Washington, the Israeli Foreign Ministry quickly rejected the Arab plan, describing it as “steeped in outdated views that have long been obsolete.” Tel Aviv expressed its dissatisfaction with granting Hamas any future role, affirming that any plan that does not include the total eradication of resistance in Gaza would be unacceptable. It also criticized reliance on the Palestinian Authority, arguing that it is “an unreliable partner in achieving security and stability.”

On the other hand, the Arab plan presented at the summit included an allocation of $53 billion for Gaza’s reconstruction over a period of six years, with a non-factional committee managing the strip’s affairs for at least six months. This plan is part of Arab efforts to provide realistic solutions to the escalating crisis, which has claimed thousands of Palestinian lives and caused massive destruction to infrastructure.

Despite American and Israeli rejection, the Arab plan was welcomed by Hamas, which emphasized that any initiative that strengthens the resilience of the Palestinian people and safeguards their rights must receive full support. The movement stated that the American position clearly reveals that Washington has never been an impartial mediator in the conflict but rather works to reinforce Israeli dominance over Palestinian lands.

In light of Washington’s rejection, Arab states are preparing to launch a diplomatic campaign to garner international support for the plan and persuade key players of the need to adopt a more balanced approach to resolving the Gaza crisis. As pressure on Palestinians continues to mount, the question remains: Will Arab efforts succeed in imposing their plan, or will Washington and Tel Aviv persist in their attempts to impose a new reality at the expense of Palestinian rights?
