Gaza Under Siege: Suhoor Raids and Humanitarian Crisis During Ramadan

Watan-The early hours of the blessed month of Ramadan were painful for the people of Gaza, just as they have been since October 7th of last year, amid the ongoing Israeli war on the region.

The residents of Gaza welcomed the month of Ramadan with intense Israeli airstrikes targeting civilian homes during the pre-dawn Suhoor meal.

Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes in various areas of Gaza, especially in the city of Rafah (south), and the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central part of the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian sources reported that Israeli warplanes conducted more than 40 airstrikes targeting homes, agricultural lands, and main roads in the Nuseirat camp.

Suhoor Raids

Three Palestinian women were killed in the bombardment that targeted a house during the Suhoor meal in the Jenin neighborhood of Rafah in the southern part of the Strip.

Shortly before dawn, the Israeli occupation forces shelled areas near the Palestinian-Egyptian border within the Al-Salam neighborhood in Rafah. Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes west of Gaza City, resulting in casualties.

Local sources reported that the Israeli forces conducted demolitions in the Hammad area northwest of Khan Yunis, while helicopter gunfire was heavily reported in the province.

In the Zaytoun neighborhood east of Gaza City, local sources reported the death of 16 Palestinians due to the shelling of a house belonging to the Abu Shamala family.

Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

In a related context, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that 2,000 healthcare workers in the northern part of the Gaza Strip began Ramadan without Suhoor or Iftar meals.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Ashraf al-Qudra, stated in a press release: “Medical teams are working around the clock in northern Gaza, unable to find food to sustain themselves.”

He added: “Medical teams in northern Gaza are collapsing due to the lack of food,” urging international and relief organizations to provide ready-made meals to enable medical teams to carry out their work.

The War on Gaza Continues

Since October 7th of last year, the Israeli army has been waging a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 31,000 martyrs, mostly children and women.

The aggressive war waged by the Israeli army has caused massive infrastructure destruction and a humanitarian catastrophe, leading Tel Aviv to face charges of “genocide” before the International Court of Justice.

Israel adopted a policy of destroying neighborhoods and residential squares over the heads of its inhabitants in its war on Gaza, putting hospitals on its list of targets either by bombing or invasion.

Furthermore, Israel implemented a policy of starvation, particularly in the northern part of the Strip, by refusing to allow aid to enter by land.
