The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as distressing, leading to the death of the Tunisian citizen Marwan Shouk at the hands of two Canadian police officers in the city of Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
In the context of respecting human rights and laws, the ministry urged Canadian authorities to swiftly determine responsibilities in this tragic incident. It emphasized ongoing close monitoring of the situation, intensified communication with the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ontario authorities, and the city police to quickly uncover all details.
The ministry also called for revealing all relevant facts, assigning administrative and legal responsibilities promptly and without delay. It affirmed that preliminary information suggests the Tunisian citizen was not in a dangerous position that warranted being shot seven times by the police.
The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “The ministry renews its condolences for the deceased and expresses full sympathy with his grieving family. It confirms its commitment to continue working to uncover the truth and defend the rights of the deceased, noting that efforts are underway to repatriate his body as soon as possible.”
Killing of a Tunisian in Canada
The Tunisian was killed in the city of Oakville by seven shots fired by two Canadian police officers who are currently under investigation. Information about the circumstances of the incident is not yet available from the authorities.
