Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis: The Silent War of Famine and Its Devastating Impact

Watan-Gaza is facing a major humanitarian tragedy manifested in the war of famine after the starvation imposed by the Israeli occupation, the tightening of the siege on the strip, as well as the brutal bombings and targeting of infrastructure.

After more than 157 days of the brutal war, the spokesperson for the municipality of Gaza City, Hasan Muhanna, warned that the hunger crisis is escalating and claiming the lives of many Palestinians.

The municipality explained that the per capita water allocation has decreased from 90 liters to 2 liters per day, exacerbating the suffering as the month of Ramadan approaches.

A warning of the war of famine in Gaza

Muhanna, the spokesperson for the Gaza municipality, spoke about the danger of more casualties due to hunger and thirst in northern Gaza if the worsening humanitarian crisis continues.

Regarding the airdrop operations, the Palestinian official mentioned, “The food and relief aid that has reached Gaza and the north is very important in the face of the famine, but it does not meet the needs of the citizens.”

Muhanna also reported that the per capita water allocation in Gaza City has decreased to only 2 liters per day after the war, compared to the previous 90 liters. The Israeli occupation caused significant damage to water facilities and networks through its intense shelling of infrastructure and municipal facilities.

The occupation destroyed 40 water wells, 9 reservoirs, and 42,000 linear meters of water networks, along with 500 manholes of various diameters.

Fuel and essential services

Since the beginning of November, Gaza has not received any quantities of fuel.

Muhanna called for the necessity of providing municipalities with the necessary fuel to provide essential services such as water pumping, sewage facility operation, waste collection, and opening closed streets blocked by the rubble of destroyed buildings to allow the movement of rescue and emergency vehicles.

The spokesperson for the Gaza municipality warned that the health and environmental conditions in Gaza are extremely catastrophic due to the accumulation of 70,000 tons of waste in the streets and neighborhoods of the city, especially around the Al-Shifa Medical Complex west of the city.
