Israeli Academic Dismissed for Criticizing State Actions in Gaza: Nadra Shalhoub-Kevorkian’s Controversy

Watan-Israeli academic Nadra Shalhoub-Kevorkian, a lecturer at Hebrew University, faced dismissal from her position after criticizing the Israeli state and describing its actions in Gaza as “genocide,” alongside her attack on the Zionist movement.

Nadra stated in an audio blog that “Zionism must be eliminated” and that Israel commits genocide, according to Hebrew reports.

The university professor denied the accusations against the Hamas movement, which claims that resistance members committed rape crimes on October 7th. Nadra said, “Israel always lies.”

Hebrew University’s Response

Nadra’s statements provoked outrage from Hebrew University, which responded by saying, “Since the beginning of the war, Professor Nadra Shalhoub-Kevorkian has spoken in a disgraceful, inflammatory, and anti-Zionist manner.”

They added, “The professor’s words invoke freedom of expression and academic freedom and use them mockingly.”

They pointed out that suggestions were made to Nadra to leave the educational institution, but she ignored the request, and after ignoring it, it was decided to dismiss her.

Israeli Massacres Continue in Gaza

These developments come as the occupying army continues to commit massacres in the Gaza Strip.

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, confirmed that the number of children killed in Gaza since October 7th is greater than the number of children killed in world wars over four years.

Lazzarini described the statistics regarding the children killed by Israel in Gaza as “shocking.” He added: “This is a war on children, a war waged against the future of children.”
