Watan-The Egyptian politician and former Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, responded to allegations of responsibility by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas for the situation in Gaza following the “Tempest of Al-Aqsa”.

In a recorded interview with Al Jazeera, Moussa addressed the statements being circulated in Arab and international media, suggesting that the Palestinian resistance bears responsibility for the destruction that occurred after the outbreak of the “Tempest of Al-Aqsa.”

Moussa stated that the discussions about Hamas’s responsibility are “empty talk,” adding: “I expected such an explosion to occur in the occupied Palestinian territories due to the continued Israeli occupation.”

The Egyptian politician further added: “It is not natural to say that calm prevailed in the Palestinian territories before the seventh of October last year.”

State of Submission

Moussa affirmed that the Israeli authorities aimed to keep the Palestinian people in a state of permanent submission and that “the events of October seventh revealed the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and were a result of the practices and violations of the occupation.”

The former Secretary-General of the Arab League continued: “The continuation of the occupation necessarily means the continuation of resistance, and Israel suffered a major strategic defeat due to what happened on October seventh last year at the hands of the Palestinian resistance.” He pointed out that Israel wants to save itself and even hopes to return to the situation that prevailed before this date.

Amr Moussa added: “The gains achieved on the Arab and Palestinian sides are significant, represented by the great awakening that swept the Arab and Islamic worlds regarding the Palestinian issue.”

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has been waging a brutal war against the Gaza Strip, resulting in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and injuries, most of whom are children and women, as well as causing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive infrastructure destruction.
