Inside the Hunt: Qassam Brigades’ Tracking and Elimination of Israeli Officer Responsible for Al-Shifa Hospital Siege

Watan-The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, broadcasted exclusive footage on Sunday showing the tracking device of the monitoring unit within the Qassam movement, monitoring the movements of the officer in the Shaldag unit, Yitzhar Hofman, before his killing by Qassam sniper fire at the end of last January. He was known to be responsible for besieging and storming Al-Shifa Hospital.

The images displayed by Al Jazeera showed “Hofman” in a field command center in Gaza accompanied by a number of soldiers.

The pictures also indicated continued tracking of  Hofman after he arrived at a field location in Gaza where he was killed by a sniper bullet from the Qassam’s Golani rifle.

The Qassam Brigades had previously published a video of the officer Hofman being sniped after the Israeli army announced his death at the end of January.

Yitzhar Hofman was the Israeli officer responsible for besieging and storming Al-Shifa Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip last November.

Commenting on Al Jazeera’s broadcast, military expert Elias Hanna considered it as evidence of the professionalism of the snipers in the Qassam Brigades.

The Shaldag unit is an elite unit of the Israeli Air Force and is also known as Unit 5101.

 

Officer Yitzhar Hofman was injured at the beginning of the war by a bullet to his leg, and when he arrived at the hospital, he requested to return to fighting, according to Israeli sources.

According to Israeli journalists, the officer “Hofman” was supposed to receive a commendation at the upcoming ceremony next week, but he was killed by the resistance in Gaza.
