Tragic Loss and Covert Operations: The Story of Faiq al-Mabhuh

Watan-The government media office in Gaza announced the martyrdom of the Gaza Police Operations Officer Brigadier Faiq al-Mabhuh in an operation by the Israeli occupation forces at Al-Shifa Hospital in the western part of Gaza City. He was the brother of the martyr, leader of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Mahmoud al-Mabhuh, who was assassinated by the Israeli Mossad in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2010.

Brigadier al-Mabhuh coordinated with tribes and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to deliver and secure aid to northern Gaza. He engaged solely in pure humanitarian civilian work, necessitating his protection and non-exposure according to international law, as stated by the Gaza government office.

The office highlighted the continued Israeli occupation’s commission of such crimes, killing civilians and targeting humanitarian workers, indicating its strong pursuit of spreading chaos and instability in Gaza, hindering the facilitation of humanitarian aid to hundreds of thousands of starving people.

Path of treachery and starvation

The statement condemned the occupation’s approach of starvation and deprivation of food supplies to the population, despite their scarcity. It denounced the assassination of Brigadier al-Mabhuh as a violation of international law, humanitarian law, and human rights agreements.

The statement held the Israeli occupation, the US administration, and the international community fully responsible for these ongoing crimes against our people, civilians, children, and women. It urged UN and international organizations and all free countries worldwide to immediately intervene to halt the occupation, stop its genocide war, cease its aggression and targeting of civilians, children, and women, and halt the targeting of humanitarian workers and the bombing of humanitarian aid distribution centers for over 2 million displaced people in Gaza.

Statement of the Israeli occupation

The Israeli army claimed to have assassinated Faiq al-Mabhuh, the head of the operations directorate in the internal security apparatus of Hamas, inside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. However, Hamas did not immediately respond to this claim.

In a statement, the occupation said that based on intelligence information from the General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Military Intelligence Directorate (Aman) about the presence of several Hamas officials in Al-Shifa Hospital, the army and the General Security Service raided the place, resulting in the killing of al-Mabhuh, the head of the operations directorate affiliated with the internal security apparatus of Hamas.

The statement added that al-Mabhuh was killed during an exchange of fire with Israeli forces while he was armed and hiding inside the hospital compound. The statement claimed that he was responsible for coordinating between Hamas entities in the Gaza Strip, and multiple weapons were found in the adjacent room to the location where he was eliminated.

Savage war

Since the dawn of Monday, March 18, 2024, the Israeli army has stormed Al-Shifa Medical Compound despite the presence of thousands of patients, wounded, and displaced persons inside it. This marks the second operation since the start of the destructive war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.

The Israeli war on Gaza has left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, mostly children and women, along with immense destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe under a suffocating siege imposed on the Palestinian territory.

Israeli journalist and researcher at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, Edy Cohen, had conveyed intriguing information regarding the assassination of Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhuh in Dubai in 2010, revealing the involvement of several parties in the operation, including Dubai’s Deputy Police Chief Dhahi Khalfan and dismissed Fatah leader Mohammed Dahlan.

Cohen wrote in a tweet on his Twitter account, as reported by “Watan”: “Al-Mabhuh entered Dubai on January 18, 2010, with a forged passport because he was afraid of the Emirati authorities. Khalfan informed Dahlan, who then informed the CIA, and they informed the Mossad, who gave them Al-Mabhuh’s hotel room card. Khalfan waited for them until they left to declare that they were the Mossad. It’s been 8 years, where is Interpol on them as threatened before?”
