Hassan Khan was returning from a vacation with his friends in Jordan when the woman felt she was going to deliver her baby.

The plane diverted its route to nearby Italy so the woman and her baby could go to the hospital.

Khan explained that the Jordanian woman did not speak English, and someone helped translate throughout the delivery process.

However, Syrian media outlets reported that a Syrian doctor named Ali Nasr Abdullah was the one who performed the delivery.

The pro-government Syrian website “Snack Syria” quoted Abdullah as saying that he specializes in heart diseases and that he assisted in the delivery process with another doctor who was on board the plane.

According to the Syrian website, Abdullah used available passenger towels and gloves, as well as some plastic threads, to tie the umbilical cord after the birth. However, the latter proved ineffective, so he had to close it manually for over half an hour until the plane made an emergency landing at Brindisi Airport in Italy and the medical team arrived.

However, the narrative provided by the Syrian website, which mentioned that the baby was named “Sama,” was not referenced by the BBC at all.
