Omani Foreign Minister Calls for Resolution Amidst Gaza War Devastation
Watan-The Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, said that the world is “witnessing a deliberate policy of starvation” by Israel against the people of Gaza, and that there is an opportunity to reach a historic solution that ends the tragedy.
Al Busaidi, in an interview with the American network CNN conducted by “Becky Anderson,” expressed his belief that the United States still has the potential to act as a peace mediator and repeat the historic agreement between Israel and the Palestinians in the 1990s.
The Omani official added that “President Joe Biden has called on Israelis not to invade Rafah. The whole world is calling on Israel not to invade Rafah. Because enough is enough.” Al Busaidi emphasized that the entire Gaza Strip is in famine, and this cannot be described. This did not happen because of a natural disaster or disease, but because of Israel’s complete violation of international law.
Deliberate Starvation
Al Busaidi pointed out that deliberate starvation is happening in Gaza, saying: “I believe this is happening, and this is not just what I say, but the entire international community and the United Nations agencies who are already witnessing a deliberate policy of starvation and blockade on the people of Gaza.”
When asked if he believes that America is still capable of exerting pressure on Israel, Al Busaidi replied, saying: “In the 1990s, and thanks to the courage and wisdom of the then Secretary of State, James Baker, the United States called for an international conference that eventually led to a historic agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. I believe that the United States has the ability to do the same thing exactly at the present time.”
Compensating Palestinians
The Omani Foreign Minister called for the necessity of compensating Palestinians in Gaza for the losses in innocent lives and those affected by the Israeli war, and the necessity of making a collective and comprehensive effort to alleviate the impact of the Israeli war on the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He also addressed the critical and tragic situation in the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to play a vital role in securing sustainable peace and taking swift action to achieve it.
Al Busaidi also pointed out the escalating tensions in the Red Sea, confirming the complexity of regional dynamics, stressing the importance of engaging all parties in dialogue.
He said: “We will always be in favor of de-escalation, and to do so, we need to get people talking to each other. Iran is part of the region, and I believe that dealing with all the countries of the region is a very important element and a basic requirement for reducing escalation and achieving a common goal, which is peace for the entire world.
The Israeli occupation has waged a brutal and destructive war since October 27, 2023, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands, most of whom are women and children, according to Palestinian, human rights, and international media sources.
