Egyptian Activist Arrested After Emotional Gaza Video: Crackdown on Dissent

Watan-Social media platforms in Egypt were dominated by news of the arrest of the young man Abdelrahman Osama, the owner of the famous video that circulated days ago, in which he was seen crying emotionally over what was happening in Gaza and his inability to support the Palestinians.

“The Egyptian Revolutionary Council,” which includes symbols of the Egyptian opposition, also published news of the arrest of Abdelrahman Osama, the owner of the video in which he cried over what was happening in Gaza.

The council emphasized in its post on its official account on the “X” platform that what the young Egyptian man did and his solidarity with Gaza is not a crime, condemning the Egyptian regime’s arrest of him.

The post continued: “Although the massacres of our people in Gaza and their starvation are crimes that should move the stone, the hearts of Sisi and his Zionist gang are even more cruel. Arresting anyone who deviates from the official line and announcing it is to intimidate the people from moving, but it will happen, and you will see.”

Another activist commented on what happened, saying: “Unfortunately, solidarity with the people of Gaza and feeling their pain and the crimes committed against them might lead to your arrest and forced disappearance in Egypt.

Speaking about the young man Abdelrahman Osama, the owner of the video, he said: “His crime is that he sympathized with Gaza and said what we all want to say… God’s curse upon you.”

“I can’t, O Lord.” The young man Abdelrahman Osama appeared in a video days ago, crying passionately over his inability to support Gaza, like millions of Egyptians who have been shackled by the Sisi regime with fire and iron.

He appeared walking in one of the streets, saying, “Open the borders for us, let us go die with them… I will commit suicide, at least then, O Lord, I wouldn’t be able to live with what’s happening.”

He continued, still crying passionately: “I don’t know how to live my life, I don’t know how to do anything, I don’t know how to fast or break my fast… what’s happening is very painful and pushes a person towards explosion and suicide.”

Abdelrahman Osama added, “What should we do? We can’t do anything, and we know we won’t be able to move because the ruler ordered us not to move, and we have to remain silent,” raising his voice loudly: “I can’t, O Lord.”
